分詞構文全般に亘るネット検索、検討はこの辺で終わりにしておく。最後に最近、ネットで見つけた分詞構文らしきものをいくつかあげてみる。
様々な使い方があることがこれらの例文からだけでも分る。

最後に設問の文の文頭にある"Eventually"は、その次に来る副詞節"when science became aware of..."全体を修飾する。
文修飾の副詞の後に独立分詞構文、あるいは通常の分詞構文が来るというのはあまり見たことがない。検索を進めれば見つかるかもしれないが、その一方で、"when"で始まる副詞節が来る例は、検索でも割合簡単に見つかる。
この一事をもってしても、問題の選択肢Cは、適切な解答とはいえない。
