A Mouse on the Loose
A: Eek! A mouse just ran across my foot.
B: Stay calm. I 1(get) it, by Geoge!
A: What are you going to do with that broom?
B: I 2(knock) it silly. Everything is under control.
A: Don't hurt it! It's just a harmless little mouse!
B: Then I 3(just sweep) it out the door. Oops. It got away!
A: Eek!
1.は、will get。発生した事態にすばやく対応する場合、willを使う。
be going toでは、するのかしないのかを、他人の反応を見て決めるニュアンスがあり、なんとも間延びした言い方となる。
2. はbe going toを使っていた。Are you going to...?の質問には、やはり同じ形式で答えるのが普通。
3.は、Aの要求に応えるので、willを使う。be going toにすると改めて、Aの意向を確かめているように聞こえるので変。
